The Big Bend and Rio Grande trip was fantastic and much more than I expected. Not only do you offer an adventure beyond expectation, but you create the fertile ground where strangers come together and become instant friends . . . a team of explorers, who care about wildlife and the mysteries of the natural world.
Let me again commend you on your leadership and teaching methods. You instill confidence in those in your charge. And you performed no small miracle in successfully training me as a canoeist.
From the minute we met, to the very last moment of saying “goodbye,” the trip was full of fun, learning, living different and memorable days. We had the best vacation we could think of.
The Panthertown camping trip was another one for the memory book. You think through all the details to ensure that everyone has a great experience–from delicious food to keen insights into nature. . . .
Had an awesome, awesome weekend at your canoe clinic. Always wanted to know how to guide a canoe but was too scared. Knew that the clinic was a safe way to learn. Thank you for your patience and excellent instruction.
That hike in Panthertown was absolutely spectacular and I will never forget it.
You do such a great job of organizing every detail, and I am in awe of your abilities to read the faintest of trails.
To say the Blackfoot was a great trip is an understatement. I loved the water, sky, seeing all the animals. I enjoyed meeting everyone, drinking your StarBurt’s, and the personal challenge. It was my benchmark experience of 2006.
Another thing I remember about being on Calderwood Lake occurred after supper, when the lake was like glass, and Emily and I paddled out to see the sunset. It was a wonderfully peaceful moment that I will always fondly remember.
The best part of hiking with Burt is that he knows the land, the traditions, and the plant and animal life. He has sharp eyes for pointing out things you might miss. Plus, the food is always good.
Once again you released us with spirits high! The canoeing experience had 4 husbands wondering how they were going to sneak new canoes into their houses without their wives catching them.
So, thirteen women set out on the Ogeechee River with our gallant guide Burt that fateful Friday morning and a team of women returned that welcome Sunday afternoon. And yes, they would all do it again.
Our expedition grows in my memory like a good fish story.
I have been thinking for the past week of how I might possibly tell you what a fabulous trip the Rio Grande Expedition was. . . . The Big Bend is such amazing country. Nothing could have prepared us for its vastness, harshness, desolationand above all, its beauty. . . . You continue to change our lives in the most amazing and wonderful ways. We look forward to the next Expedition!
Hearing of our recent adventures...friends respond with varying degrees of incredulity. Yet, all of us who participated in this event have a universal response - we had a blast!
After three days of hiking and camping, as Chase and I were driving back home, I thought that she'd want to sleep. But she couldn't stop talking about the trip. I'm wondering to myself, "What's going to hurt tomorrow?" She's asking, "Could we make this an annual thing?" The food, the trails, the weather, the falls leaves, the preparation, the botanical, geological, and historical knowledge shared with all of us, even the campfire stories were exceptional.
